Home Circuit

Home Circuit connects you back to your own computer from anywhere — your terminals, your coding agents and your files.

It isn't screen sharing. Nothing is streamed as a picture of a faraway desktop: Circuitry talks to your machine directly, so everything you see is native on the device in your hand — crisp, fast and sized for its screen — while the work itself runs on your computer's full power.

Start an agent at your desk, then follow it from your iPad at a café. Check on a long-running task from your phone. Leave the office and carry on from the sofa. As long as your computer is on and online, it's with you.

What it gives you

  • Your terminals, anywhere — pick up a session you started at your desk and keep typing
  • Your coding agents, watched from any device — see what an agent is doing and steer it from wherever you are
  • Your files and projects — the real ones, on your machine, not a copy
  • Automatic switching — on your home network Circuitry connects directly; when you leave, it switches to Home Circuit on its own, and switches back when you return

Setting up

Open the server menu in the top bar and choose Home Circuit. The setup walks you through three steps and ticks each one off as it's done:

  1. Run Circuitry Server on the computer — the small companion app that gives Circuitry access to your machine. If it's already running and connected, this step is ticked before you start.
  2. Authorize it for your account — one press, from the device you're holding. This tells your account which machine is yours.
  3. Allow it on the computer — on the computer itself, click the Circuitry Server icon (in the menu bar on a Mac, in the system tray on Windows and Linux) and turn on Allow Remote Connections. The setup screen updates the moment you do.

Devices pair with your computer on your local network first — scanning the QR code from the server menu is how a new iPad or phone introduces itself. That in-person pairing is deliberate: it's what makes everything below possible.

How the switching works

You don't manage the connection — it manages itself:

  • At home, Circuitry talks to your computer over your local network, which is fastest.
  • When you leave, it notices the local network can't reach your machine anymore and switches to Home Circuit automatically. The server menu shows via Home Circuit so you always know which path you're on.
  • When you come back, it prefers the local network again and switches home.

If you ever want to choose the path yourself — say, to try Home Circuit while you're still at home — right-click your computer in the server menu and pick it directly.

How it's secured

Being able to reach your computer from anywhere is exactly the kind of feature that deserves scrutiny, so here is precisely how it works:

  • Your keys never leave your devices. Pairing exchanges encrypted key pairs between your device and the Circuitry Server on your computer — directly, on your local network. We never see those keys, and they are never stored on our servers. We keep only your computer's name and a key fingerprint so you can revoke it.
  • No key, no access. Every connection must be signed by the key of a device you paired in person. Your computer refuses everything else — and your device verifies your computer right back. Someone who stole your account password could not connect: an account login alone opens nothing.
  • We only make the introduction. Our service passes the signed greeting between your two devices, then steps out of the way. Everything after that travels directly between your devices, end-to-end encrypted with the same class of encryption that protects SSH and HTTPS. Your files, terminals and keystrokes never pass through our servers.
  • It doesn't weaken what you already have. The keys live in your devices' protected storage. Reaching them would take full access to the device itself — and anyone with that already has your computer. Home Circuit adds no new way in.
  • You hold the off switch, twice. Nothing is reachable until you allow it on the computer itself, and you can revoke any machine at any time from the setup screen — it disconnects within seconds. Your computer never opens a port to the internet, so there is nothing out there to scan.

Managing your machines

The Home Circuit screen shows every machine enabled for your account and whether it's online right now. Revoke cuts a machine off everywhere immediately; turning off Allow Remote Connections on the computer itself does the same from that end. Re-enabling is the same three steps, minus the ones already done.

When your computer is off

Home Circuit reaches a computer that is on and awake. If your machine is asleep in a bag or powered down — or you don't have a computer you can leave running — a cloud server fills the same role: a Linux dev machine that's always reachable, from any device.
